KUCHING: The Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (Cuepacs) Sarawak stressed that every federal agency in the state must comply with its own standard operating procedure (SOP) to ensure the safety of their workers.

Its chairman Ahmad Malie said Cuepacs Sarawak accepted the move to slowly relax the movement control order (MCO) to allow federal civil servants to go back to work starting yesterday as announced by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

Malie stated that the easing of the MCO was a bit of a concern for Sarawakians, but the agencies must comply with the federal government’s directive.

“However, the easing of the MCO does not involve state civil servants because the Sarawak government is not enforcing the federal government’s ruling,” he said in a press statement issued yesterday.

Besides that, Malie urged the agencies to provide face masks and hand sanitisers for the public who make use of their services.

“Since the easing of the MCO does not mean that civil servants must physically be at their workplaces, Cuepacs Sarawak also recommends that certain federal agencies allow their officers to work from home, if possible,” he said.

As the state government is not enforcing the conditional MCO, Cuepacs Sarawak also called on the federal government to allow its agencies in the state to comply with the Sarawak government’s decision to continue its existing SOP.
