KUCHING: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) Members of Parliament getting ministerial posts in the cabinet line-up has shown how important Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim views his relationship with Sarawak.

As such, Asajaya assemblyman Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah really thanked the prime minister for the appointments – one deputy prime minister, five ministers and six deputy ministers from Sarawak.

“Now the ball is at these ministers and deputy ministers’ feet in making sure they are able to perform with the responsibilities entrusted upon them.

“They are ministers and deputy ministers for whole of Malaysia and not just for Sarawak.

“And when managing the ministries, they must always bear that in mind,” Abdul Karim, who is also the Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister, said when contacted by New Sarawak Tribune yesterday.

Meanwhile, Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu said with another six MPs appointed as deputy ministers in the federal cabinet, it was a recognition of GPS as a strong partner of the unity government.

“We are grateful to the prime minister for carefully looking at the qualifications of those appointed and taking into account the contributions of the parties that established this unity government.

“Most importantly, the cabinet line-up from deputy prime ministers, ministers and deputy ministers must defend Sarawak’s rights and diligently return Sarawak’s rights as enshrined in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) and the Inter-Governmental Committee (IGC) report which clearly outline the rights of the people of Sarawak,” he said.
