KUCHING: Religious freedom is a state right and not controlled by the federal government, Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Supreme Council member Datuk Ahmad Ibrahim points out.

“Whatever decision made with regard to the word ‘Allah’, whether or not Umno or the federal government wants to appeal the court ruling, has nothing to do with us.

“As far as we are concerned, in Sabah and Sarawak, we are independent in terms of religion and laws.

“There is no reason why Sarawak needs to bother pushing the federal government not to do this and that.

“It does not impact us. It’s never been an issue in Sarawak; same goes to Sabah. So why do we keep bothering about it?” he asked.

“It is irrelevant to us and it does not have any impact in Sarawak. We should defend our rights. Why do we need to bother?”

“We should not make people angry for the sake of politics and we must use our brain and think carefully. Let them (federal government) handle the issue there.”
