Federal minister attends briefing on RECODA

KUCHING: Federal Rural Development Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid on Friday (Jan 28) attended a briefing on the socio-economic and infrastructure development plans for the State’s northern region.

The briefing was conducted by Regional Corridor Development Authority (RECODA) chief executive officer Datuk Ismawi Ismuni who shared on the overall road network connectivity for Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE) region and its significance in spurring investment and economic growth in the region as well as the relationship with the Brunei Darussalam–Indonesia–Malaysia–Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

“RECODA is a statutory body tasked with managing the SCORE region, which covers 80 percent of the state’s land area.

“To implement development projects in SCORE, RECODA is also tasked with drawing investments and creating job opportunities for Sarawakians,” he told the visiting delegation on Friday (Jan 28).

He also highlighted that the State government had funded a total of 263 infrastructure and socio-economic projects to complement efforts by the Federal government to develop the economic corridor.

During the briefing, several proposals were also put forward, such as bridging the missing road links of the Pan Borneo Highway and other access roads to village settlements as well as tourist destinations.

Also present at the briefing was Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan who presented an overview of the state’s initiatives to ensure sustainable economic growth post Covid-19.
