Federation of Chinese Associations, Kuching, Samarahan and Serian Division ready to help flood victims

KUCHING: The Federation of Chinese Associations, Kuching, Samarahan and Serian Division are all geared up and ready to help flood victims in the state.

According to the association’s disaster relief unit chief Kapitan Tan Kok Chiang, the unit will dispatch four teams from its members to Kuching, Samarahan, Bau and Serian to be on standby to give immediate help to the victims there.

“Due to the serious flood issues that have been happening in some areas of the state, we have decided to dispatch our team members to go to the villages and some areas to set up the unit and aid the people.

“For those who need help or are victims of the flood, you may contact us at any time.

“Aside from that, we also kept close contact with the Fire and Rescue Department, police, Civil Defence Department (APM), People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela) and State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) to see if there were any ways or places that we could lend our hands to the victims,” he said at the press conference at its office here, today (Dec 25).

Following this, he also called on the public and its members to lend a helping hand by donating in the form of food or cash to the victims.

“In line with this, we will also try to support the Social Welfare Department by handing out food to the victims cared for by them,” he added.
