Fifth consecutive zero case, ten recoveries

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded no new positive Covid-19 cases for the fifth consecutive day yesterday, with the total number of positive cases in the state thus far remaining at 678.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in a statement also reported ten new recovery cases had been discharged from hospitals yesterday.

“Nine of these cases are from Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) and one from Bintulu Hospital,” it said, adding that this brought the total number of recovered and discharged cases so far to 617 or 91 percent.

“Forty-two individuals are still undergoing treatment at hospital isolation wards and the total number of deaths remains at 19 or 2.8 percent,” SDMC said.

The statement said four new person-under-investigation (PUI) cases were reported and one case was still awaiting laboratory results.

It noted that ten Covid-19 clusters in the state were still active.

Meanwhile, 194 persons-under-surveillance (PUS) had been checked into hotels on Wednesday to undergo quarantine, bringing the total number of PUS at 17 hotels to 1,407, while 19,665 PUS had completed their quarantine period.

A total of 1,762 vehicles were checked at roadblocks between Zones 1 and 2 held at two locations, namely Simunjan and Sri Aman.

Of this total, 1,751 were permitted to pass through while 11 were ordered to turn back as they did not have the necessary permits.

Police also issued 13 compound notices for non-compliance with the standard operating procedure (SOP) – five in Kota Samarahan, four in Miri, two in Padawan, and one each in Sarikei and Betong.

A total of 2,071 premises were inspected for compliance to the recovery movement control order (RMCO), comprising supermarkets (383), restaurants (485), factories (19), banks (164), government offices (96), hawkers (39), public markets (109), places of worship (99), recreational places (47), construction sites (15), and others (615).
