KUCHING: Sarawak may have its very own films and documentaries on the local prominent figures in the near future.

National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (Finas) chief executive officer Ahmad Idham Ahmad Nadzri said the body has always been encouraging creative industry players to come up with proposals on productions such as films, documentaries and dramas.

Finas would then evaluate the proposals and provide funding for the productions.

He pointed out that Finas had also published books on prominent figures as well as their contribution to the industry.

“However, I admit that pieces on prominent figures from Sabah and Sarawak are still not there yet and the phase will come later. Before this, there was little focus put on that aspect.

“But under the new leadership of the Communications and Multimedia Minister Saifuddin Abdullah and Finas chairman Zakaria Abd Hamid, efforts on such matter have begun and we will start to spread to Sabah and Sarawak directly,” he added.

He told this to the press when met during his visit to a local veteran artiste Safar Ghaffar at his residence in Taman Sukma here on Saturday (July 11).

He further revealed that Finas had recently closed the submission of proposals on June 1 and is currently in the film pitching process which is also done in the state.
