KUCHING: Financial assistance plays a pivotal role in ensuring a conducive learning environment and the wellbeing of students in rural schools.

The recent fund allocations by STA Mutual Sdn Bhd in collaboration with Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation (PUSAKA) is a testament to the transformative impact such support can provide.

The funds not only provide crucial assistance to these schools, but it also opens doors to opportunities that might otherwise be out of reach for students studying in rural areas.

New Sarawak Tribune interviewed teachers who received the funds to shed light on how this financial support is being used to good use to enhance the educational landscape in their respective schools.

The RM8,000 allocation presents an opportunity for us to address pressing needs, including repairing dilapidated school buildings and purchasing essential teaching and facilitation (PDPC) equipment. Looking ahead, we hope for continued collaboration with STA Mutual Sdn Bhd, particularly schools under the district of Baram. The support is essential in supporting the education of Baram’s students.

This funding will play a pivotal role in organising programmes at our school, offering valuable experiences to students who can now participate in various competitions and activities. Some of the funds will be dedicated to organising camps under the Professional Development Programme (PDP). I hope that this contribution will empower our students to compete with their urban counterparts.

Our school faces significant challenges, lacking proper infrastructure with only one block serving multiple grade levels. The current building, made of wood, has been declared unsafe. This funding addresses a critical need, especially as our area lacks internet access and basic facilities. We appreciate the support and recognise the impact it will have on improving our students’ learning environment.

The funds will be fully utilised to enhance the facilities for the school’s athletic team, such as acquiring new spike shoes for students, as our existing facilities are outdated and many are damaged. This contribution is invaluable to our athletics programme, and I hope that STA will continue to provide support for our students.
