KUCHING: Investigation on full detail of the cases involving a baby who died at Jelukong bus stop on Dec 4 needs to be done before making any conclusion, said Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

He said, the first thing to be done is to find the parents of the baby to get the full history and investigate the case.

“Normally when a severe case comes to the district hospital, we will do the referral, rather that the patient took their own transport to the state hospital.

“The question is why the parents taking six-hour journey rather than coming to our district hospital where we have primary care and clinic; we have flying doctor’s services and transport, and we will make arrangement but, in this case, we were not involved.

“Now we need to investigate the detail before we make any conclusion,” he said when met by reporters in a press conference after the opening ceremony of the 2022 Academy for Silent Mentor (AFSM) Tripartite Conference on Healthcare Challenges in the 21st Century at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) yesterday.

He then said that a normal procedure for a patient is to go to the Klinik Kesihatan first, and from there if they are diagnosed, the health department are the one doing the referral.

“If it’s an emergency we will call for helicopter service or other emergency transportation.

“We are investigating this case, we are not able to find the patient (parents of the baby) yet, but the investigation needs to be done to find the detail of this case before we can make conclusion.

“The system is in place but the question is why the parents did not use the current referral pattern system,” he said.
