Fined RM2.5k for damaging car

KUCHING: A man was fined RM2,500, in default three months’ imprisonment by the Magistrate’s Court here today for damaging a car.

Lu Chuan Yuan, 51, pleaded guilty to the charge read to him by an interpreter before Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali.

Lu was charged with causing damage to a Mitsubishi Mirage vehicle belonging to a 30-year-old woman in front of the Kota Sentosa Police Station, Jalan Lapangan Terbang here at 12.45am on July 4, 2020.

It is said that during the incident, the complainant and his wife were on their way to Jalan Stakan from Bukit Berangan. They were being followed by an unknown man using a four-wheel drive vehicle.

The man then suddenly overtook the couple and braked. He was also driving dangerously.

Fearing for their safety, the couple continued to drive towards the nearby police station.

After arriving at the Kota Sentosa Police Station, the accused hit the back of their car three times.

Prosecuting officer Inspector Mohd Adzmei Ahmad prosecuted the case while the accused was represented by lawyer Timothy Finlayson Joel.

The accused paid the fine.
