Fined RM3,000 for damaging luxury vehicle

KUCHING: A construction manager has been fined RM3,000 in default three months’ jail by the Magistrate Court here for damaging a luxury sports utility vehicle (SUV) belonging to the new boyfriend of his former girlfriend.

The accused, Alex Chua, 36, who hails from Limbang, pleaded guilty to a charge read before Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi.

According to the charge sheet, he intentionally committed mischief by damaging the front mirror, side mirrors, rearview mirror, and registration number of a Toyota Harrier owned by a 28-year-old male victim, causing a loss of RM10,576.

He committed the offence at a condominium parking lot at Jalan Batu Kawa at approximately 11.54 pm on June 15.

Chua was charged under Section 427 of the Penal Code, which carries a punishment of imprisonment for a term not less than one year and not exceeding five years, or a fine, or both, upon conviction.

Based on the facts of the case, on June 16, around 6.30 am, the victim discovered that his car had been damaged by an unknown man and he lodged a police report for investigation and further action.

On June 21, around 12.20 pm, the police successfully apprehended Chua at a construction company at Jalan Semaba, Batu 5, Penrissen.

During the investigation, it was found that the accused had committed mischief against the victim’s car.

It is understood that the accused was dissatisfied with the victim for being involved in a relationship with his former girlfriend.

Furthermore, the accused admitted to contacting his former girlfriend via the WhatsApp application to inquire about the extent of her relationship with the victim prior to committing the offence.

The prosecution was conducted by Inspector Nur Syafiqa Nyaie Ilin while the accused was not represented by a lawyer.
