Fire at worker’s quarters leaves six children, among 29 tenants homeless

The aftermath of the wee hour blaze that left 29 tenants homeless in Taniku Estate.

MIRI: Twenty-nine tenants including six children were rendered homeless after a wee hour fire destroyed a two-block workers’ quarters at Taniku Estate today.

The fiery incident which did not involve any injuries or casualties, happened around 1.25am.

It was reported that the workers quarters were inhabited by a total of 23 adults and six children.

Firemen from Lopeng station were promptly despatched to the scene, about 25km from the scene, to commence extinguishing works.

Upon arriving, the team found that the quarters involving 12 units, had been razed to the ground.

The whole extinguishing operation ended around 4.25am after ensuring that the flames were completely doused off.

The cause of the fire and losses incurred is still under investigation.
