KUCHING: Three classrooms at Chung Hua Middle School (CHMS) No 1 were damaged in an early-morning fire.

State Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) assistant operations director Tiong Ling Hii in a statement said the department received a distress call regarding a school fire at 1am yesterday.

Seventeen firefighters from Padungan and Tabuan fire stations were deployed to the scene. Upon arrival, they found two classrooms of a two-storey permanent structure building were engulfed in flames.

“The building, involving the three classrooms located on the ground floor, suffered 25 per cent damage,” Tiong said, adding that there were no injuries or casualties in the incident.

The operation ended about 2.30am.
