Fire damages two factory premises

The scene of the fire at two factories at Kuching’s Bintawa Industrial Estate on Thursday (September 10).

KUCHING: Two factory premises were almost destroyed completely after being engulfed in severe fire, at Jalan Gedung on Thursday (September 10).

According to State Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said a distress call about the incident was received around 7.10am. It immediately despatched a team of firefighters to the scene which was located behind the Malaysian Customs Department at Bintawa Industrial Estate here.

“Upon arrival, it was said that the fire started from one of the factory premises which was empty and it spread next door which was used as storage.

“Both factory premises, estimated to be 1,383 square metres in width were 80 per cent destroyed by the fire,” the statement said.

The operation involved despatching 20 firefighters and one water tanker from Tabuan Jaya BBP, Padungan BBP, and Petra Jaya BBP to extinguish the fire at the scene. Senior Fire Superintendent I Henderi Ardimansyah led the team.
