SIBU: Three wooden houses at Lorong Sentosa Barat 2, Jalan Salim here were destroyed in a fire on Monday night which left 11 people homeless.

Sibu District Police chief, ACP Saiful Bahri told reporters last Monday night that based on initial investigations, one of the victims said the fire started at about 9.00pm.

“According to one of the victims, the fire started at about 9pm from the house in the middle which is empty as the occupants have returned to Pakan early that morning (Monday morning).

“The three houses are Lot 144, Lot 145 and Lot 146,” he said, adding that the three houses were occupied by 11 victims and a Proton Saga car was also burned in the fire. The cause of the fire is still being probed.

Meanwhile, Sibu Fire Station received a distress call at 9.15pm and 15 fire fighters rushed to the scene.

Sungai Merah Fire Station also dispatched 11 fire fighters to the scene.

Upon arrival at the fire scene, the fire fighters managed to extinguish the fire and prevent it from spreading to nearby houses.
