Fire destroys two homes in Miri, longhouse in Marudi

MIRI: A fire tore through a residential area at Lorong Harmoni 3C Tudan here yesterday (Mar 7), reducing two houses to ashes.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) responded swiftly after receiving a distress call at 5.02 pm. A team from the Lopeng fire station rushed to the scene to fight the blaze.

The fire consumed two semi-permanent residential houses, measuring 25 x 40 and 30 x 50 square feet, respectively, along with a Proton Iswara vehicle.

Fortunately, all nine occupants managed to evacuate safely before the fire brigade arrived, and no casualties or injuries were reported.

Firefighters used a 200-foot hose line with two nozzles and drew water from nearby hydrants.  

The operation ended at 7.45 pm, and firefighters returned to the station after ensuring the area was safe.

In a separate incident in Marudi, a fire on March 6 completely destroyed a 17-door longhouse in Kampung Long Kerangan Baram.

The Marudi fire station received a distress call at 10.45 pm and responded promptly the following day, despite an estimated travel time of six hours.

By the time the firefighters arrived at the scene, as the longhouse had been reduced to rubble. No fatalities were reported.

Firefighters assisted the Fire Investigation Division in conducting on-site investigations before completing their duties.
