BINTANGOR: A double storey wooden house here at Jalan Yong Sing was engulfed in flames last Sunday (Jan 3).

Bintangor fire chief PPgB Nicholas Belulin said they received a distress call around 9.43pm and immediately despatched their men to the scene.

Upon arrival, they found the house was already destroyed and they faced difficulties in extinguishing the inferno as there was no fire hydrant or open water source near the scene.

The team had to go back and forth to collect water four times using their fire truck. The fire was successfully extinguished at 11.47pm and no casualties were reported.

Investigations found that the ground floor of the house is used as a car workshop for repairs and paintings as well as a storeroom.

The top floor of the house was rented by two tenants, who were not at home at the time of the incident.

The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
