KUCHING: A workers’ quarters here at Jalan Khung Phin was engulfed in a fire on Saturday (Oct 24).
According to the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operations centre, a distress call on the incident was received at 2.57pm and firefighters from Batu Lintang and Tabuan Jaya fire and rescue stations were deployed to the scene.
Upon arrival, Batu Lintang fire and rescue station chief Raffi Saibi reported that the nine-door quarters was 90 percent damaged.
Firefighters managed to put out the fire at 3.48pm but the quarters were already destroyed.
Overhaul works were carried out immediately and five liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders were removed from the quarters.
According to witnesses, no one was inside when the fire broke out.
