Fire guts two houses, leaves 25 homeless

MIRI: Two double-storey houses in Long Lama, were gutted by fire on Monday (Dec 14) evening.

The fire also left 25 residents homeless and all are now temporarily staying with their relatives.

The State Fire Department operations centre despatched firemen from the Lopeng fire station to the scene after receiving a distress call around 5.35pm.

Firefighters took two hours to arrive at the scene. By then, Lopeng fire chief Terry Robson reported both houses were already destroyed.

The firefighters took about 40 minutes to control and put out the fire.

No casualties were reported during the incident. The causes of the fire as well as losses incurred are still under investigation.
