SRI AMAN: Seven men were recognised as heroes following their brave action in saving their longhouses and a grocery store from being destroyed by fire recently.
The fire incidents happened in three separate districts – Saratok on Jan 28, Betong on Jan 30 and Sri Aman on Feb 4.
The heroes are Muhammad Irsan Manshorshah and Alvinzeanno Alanzie, both 19, Mathew Libau Alin, 27, Jutie Salang, 29, Bayang Not, 42, Welfred Tura, 5, and Micheal Jone Simon, 65.
All of them were presented appreciation certificates and fire extinguishers for their brave action during a brief ceremony at the Sri Aman fire station today.
The ceremony was officiated by Sri Aman Resident Datuk Indit Bangai along with Sarawak Fire Department director Datuk Khirudin Drahman.
On Jan 28, the living room of Ben Bali longhouse, Mudong in Saratok, caught fire.
Three residents namely Jutie, Mathew and Bayang, acted quickly and saved their longhouse with the aid of three fire extinguishers.
Losses to the longhouse were estimated at RM5,400 but they managed to save RM3.23 million of property.
Two days later on Jan 30, the Seruai longhouse in Kampung Baru Spaoh, Betong caught fire and the flames were swiftly put out by Welfred and Micheal using four extinguishers.
Losses were put at RM2,400 but the duo managed to save RM77,600 worth of property from going up in smoke.
And on Feb 4, a supermarket at Pasar Tamu in Sri Aman, caught fire. Two employees, Irsan and Alvinzeanno, managed to put out the fire with two fire extinguishers.
The fire only caused damages amounting to RM100 but the two heroes managed to save RM2.9 million worth of goods and property.
Mwanwhile, the fire station’s innovative and creative group (KIK) Benak Revolution as well as auxiliary firemen in Engkelili, Tanjung Engkabang and Lacau were presented appreciation certificates for their achievements and excellence.
