KUCHING: Four houses in Jalan Selangan Batu, Sungai Apong were razed in a fire yesterday morning, leaving 11 people homeless.
State Fire and Rescue Department (Operation) assistant director Tiong Ling Hii said the station received a distress call at 12.22am
“We deployed two fire engines from Tabuan Jaya and Padungan with 22 personnel to the scene and managed to control the fire at 1.06am, By that time the fire had engulfed four houses.”
Tiong pointed out that three of the four houses were occupied at the time of the fire but the occupants managed to escape to safety.
“No one was injured. The cause of the fire and the estimated losses are still under investigation,” he said.
Meanwhile, in another fire incident, 18 people from two families were left homeless after their houses were burnt down at Kampung Sindang Baru, Kota Samarahan
State Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) spokesperson said the department received the distress call at 1.20am.
Firefighters from Kota Samarahan and Asajaya were deployed to the scene immediately and upon arrival, they found a twin house in flames.
The fire destroyed 90 percent of the structure. However, no injuries and casualties were reported during the incident.
The cause of the fire and the estimated losses are still under investigation.
