Fire leaves 21 persons from three families homeless

Firemen extinguish the fire that destroyed a house and damaged two others in Kampung Haji Baki.

KUCHING: Twenty-one persons from three families were left homeless after fire razed their houses at Kampung Haji Baki near here this afternoon (June 26).

A double-storey house was completely burned down while two others were partly damaged in the incident.

A spokesman from the State Fire Department operations centre said there were no casualties or injuries reported in the incident.

Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang rushed to the scene to provide essential supplies to the affected families after receiving an alert.

Firemen put out the blaze at a house in Kampung Jumbit Melugu Scheme, Sri Aman.

In another incident, a house at Kampung Jumbit Melugu Scheme in Sri Aman district was completely burned down.

“Firemen who received a distress call around 2.06pm, found that the house was already destroyed when they arrived at the scene.

“The flames was successfully controlled within 10 minutes and was fully extinguished at 3.30pm,” the spokesman said.

The cause of the fire and losses incurred in both incidents are still under investigation.
