Fire razes 8 shops in Sarikei

SARIKEI: Eight two-storey wooden shop houses at Jalan Industri here were destroyed in a fire on Thursday (April 28).

Sarikei Fire and Rescue Station chief Mahmudin Narudin said they received a distress call through MERS999.

Firefighters from the Sarikei fire station and Bintangor station arrived at the scene at 7.34pm.

Two sky lift lorries were used from a nearby workshop to assist in extinguishing the fire. Four fire extinguishers were also used in the operation.

The fire was believed to have started at 7pm and spread quickly due to the wooden structure of the building. The flames were extinguished at 2.48am (April 29).

There was no report of a casualty.

The affected shops included a car workshop and a welding shop.
