SIBU: A fire destroyed four wooden houses at Jalan Amoi here yesterday morning before firemen stopped it from spreading to another house nearby.

Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) acting deputy director, senior fire superintendent I, Tiong Ling Hii, said the Bomba operation centre received a call about the fire at 8.33am.

Two fire engines with 21 firemen and an emergency medical rescue team from Sibu Fire and Rescue Station and one from Sungai Merah station arrived at the scene of the fire approximately 10 minutes after the call was made.

No casualties were reported although 17 people from four families were left with just the clothes they were wearing for the day.

“We are still trying to determine the cause of the fire as well as the losses incurred,” he said.
