Fire renders 29 homeless

The fire which left 29 residents homeless.

SIBU: Twenty-nine residents were made homeless after three houses caught fire in Kampung Usahajaya Baru, Jalan Salim last Sunday.

A spokesman for the Sarawak Fire Department operations centre said no injury or casualty were reported.

Firemen from Sibu and Sungai Merah stations were deployed to the scene after receiving an emergency call around 8.45pm. The team put out the flames around 10.50pm.

The first house inhabited by 15 residents was destroyed, whereas the second (eight residents) and third house (six residents) were 40 and 80 percent damaged, respectively.

The cause of the fire and losses incurred are still under investigation.
