SARIKEI: A devastating inferno at Rh Selunsin, Sungai Maram, Jalan Beratok Pakan here this morning could have derailed the residents’ festive preparations.
This is just two days before the Gawai Festival on June 1.
Firemen from Bintangor and Sarikei stations were promptly deployed to the scene after they were alerted to the fire at 10.5 am.
Authorities have yet to disclose the extent of the damage and the number of residents affected by the morning blaze as extinguishing works are still ongoing.
The incident has cast a sombre shadow over the approaching Gawai celebration, leaving the community in shock and uncertainty.
