KUCHING: While waiting for their new homes to be built, fire victims from Kampung Hilir in Sri Aman received donations from generous parties.

The Chung Hua Basketball Club and the Women’s Wing of Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Simanggang donated food items and other supplies to the fire victims.

Assistant Minister of Community Welfare Datuk Francis Harden Hollis was present during the handover ceremony.

“I urge people to be more careful because fires can happen anytime,” he said.

On Jan 16, four houses were destroyed in a fire in Kampung Hilir — rendering seven families (25 people) homeless.

The victims are currently living with their relatives until the completion of their new houses.

The donations were received by Surau Kebahagiaan Kampung Hilir chairman Bujang Ili and Kampung Hilir community leader Abang Norin Abang Norudin on behalf of the victims at the surau.

The ceremony was witnessed by Chung Hua Basketball Club chairman Tan Chey Foh together with Sii Tong Kwang and SUPP Simanggang Women’s Wing chief Kapitan Ling Siew Hung.
