KUCHING: Firefighters battled for twelve hours to put out a fire that erupted in a landfill near Jalan Datuk Mohammad Musa in Kota Samarahan yesterday (Apr 20).

The State Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operations centre said they received a distress call regarding the incident at 4.04am.

“Upon arrival, the fire had already engulfed several abandoned vehicles on the scene.

“It is believed that the fire was deliberately started by irresponsible individuals,” it said in a statement.

The firefighters from Kota Samarahan Fire and Rescue Station used three water nozzles to extinguish the fire.

Bomba also utilised an excavator to prevent the fire from spreading.

“There were no casualties reported during the incident,” it added.

Bomba concluded its operation at 4pm after ensuring the area was safe.
