KUCHING: A lorry driver was rescued by firefighters after getting pinned in the driver’s side following a self accident along the Bau-Lundu Road today (Jan 28).

Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operations centre said Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) vehicles and Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) from the Lundu station were deployed to the scene after a distress call was received at 9.30am.

“Upon arrival at the location, a lorry carrying rocks with a load capacity of 30 tonnes was found to be involved in a self accident and was upside down on a hillside.

“The accident was found to be due to the condition of the road being under construction, which was slippery at the location as a result of the rainy weather.”

It said firefighters then found the victim pinned in the driver’s side when conducting RECEO (Rescue, Exposures, Containment, Extinguish, Overhaul) work.

“Firefighters then removed the driver using special equipment as well as enlisting the help of excavators to stabilise the truck.
