Firefighters save three diesel storage tanks

Date:

KUCHING: Three diesel storage tanks were saved, thanks to the swift action taken by firefighters during a fire at Kampung Beladin, Pusa on Saturday.

A spokesperson from the State Fire and Rescue Department said a team of firefighters from the Betong fire station were deployed to the scene following a distress call at 10.10pm regarding a fire that affected two houses.

The Beladin Fishermen Association (Pertubuhan Nelayan Beladin) was the tenant of both houses which were fully gutted to the ground. Meanwhile, a house formerly used as the village internet centre was 40 per cent destroyed.

Firefighters managed to stop the flames from spreading to the storage area just six metres away from the rented house, where the diesel tanks with a capacity of 6,000 litres each were kept, at 11.51pm.

An occupant of the house managed to escape unharmed.

No injuries or casualties were reported during the operation which ended at 1.02am. The cause of the fire is being investigated.
