KUCHING: The 26th Universiti Malaysia Sarawak’s (UNIMAS) Convocation Ceremony today (Nov 1) saw 35 graduates of the Doctor of Medicine programme under the Faculty of Medicine and Health Science receiving their scrolls.

They are the first cohort to graduate under a full scholarship sponsored by the Sarawak Government through Yayasan Sarawak.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg was present to handover the scrolls to the medical graduates.

They were also among the 574 graduates who received their scrolls during the second session of the convocation ceremony.

Later at a press conference, the Premier congratulated them for completing their medical studies.

“First of all, I want to congratulate UNIMAS for their success in producing excellence graduates from the various courses.

“And this year, it is more special as Yayasan Sarawak has sent our students to take up medical courses in UNIMAS,” he said.

He added UNIMAS is in the midst of setting up its own hospital and hence the medical graduates can carry out their housemanship at the university’s hospital.
