KUCHING: The first batch of 150 Sarawak pilgrims left for Jeddah, Saudi Arabia yesterday to perform the haj.

They were seen off at the Kuching International Airport by the Assistant Minister of Rural Electricity Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi who wished them a safe pilgrimage.

“I wish all a safe journey…as a reminder, going for Haj is among the five pillars in Islam. I hope that in this journey, the pilgrims will perform their pilgrimage conscientiously and be aware of their actions and behaviour while in the Holy land,” he said.

Dr Abdul Rahman was representing the Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg in sending off the first batch of pilgrims from Sarawak this year.

He advised the pilgrims to focus on their spiritual journey and avoid unnecessary plans during the pilgrimage.

He urged them to take care of their health during the pilgrimage, be prepared mentally and physically as well as to always abide by the rules and laws of the Saudi Arabia government and Tabung Haji.
