KUALA LUMPUR: For the first time ever, local cricket fans will have a chance to see up close the International Cricket Council (ICC) men’s World Cup trophy for two days starting from Aug 25.

Malaysia Cricket Association (MCA) chief executive officer S. Dinesh Muthuraman said several locations around Klang Valley have been identified for the trophy tour.

“On Friday, Aug 25, we will be having a video shoot in several locations, while in the evening, the trophy will be taken to Dorsett Grand Hotel here, for a session with special guests,” he told Bernama when contacted.

The tour will continue for public sessions on Aug 26, starting at the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) in Bangi in the morning, and at the 1 Utama Shopping Centre, Petaling Jaya, in the evening.

Dinesh said approximately 500 students from 60 schools from Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Negeri Sembilan, and Melaka had also confirmed their participation in a carnival to be held in conjunction with the ICC trophy tour.

The 13th edition of the ICC men’s World Cup would take place in various cities in India from Oct 5 to Nov 19, where England will be defending their title against nine other challengers. –  BERNAMA
