KUCHING: The Cooperative Commission of Malaysia (SKM) has appointed Wan Shardini Wan Salleh as its new board of director, effective Feb 4 this year.

Wan Shardini is the first Sarawakian to be appointed with such a position.

The letter of appointment was presented by Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar at a ceremony in Kampung Buntal Community Centre here today.

Wan Junaidi said Wan Shardini’s presence on SKM’s board would be able to help in the development of the state’s cooperative sector.

“Sarawak is a huge state and therefore has its own sets of challenges. I hope by having a Sarawakian appointed as one of SKM’s board members, he would be able to assist the commission to have a better understanding of Sarawak and subsequently help improve the state’s cooperative sector,” he said.

Meanwhile, Wan Shardini holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Science from Universiti Pertanian Malaysia and a Master’s Degree in Science (Timber Technology) from University College, North Wales in the United Kingdom.

He had served the Sarawak Forestry Department for 34 years, where his last position was the Sarawak Forestry deputy director.
