BINTULU: Young voters experienced a historic moment as they enthusiastically fulfilled their civic duties today (Nov 4) in the Jepak by-election.
New Sarawak Tribune had the opportunity to speak with five young voters at Rh Joshua Manit Buyu, one of the 14 polling stations in the Jepak constituency.
Sylvester Britin Belayong, 18, hailing from Rh Sait, admitted feeling nervous about voting for the first time.
“I could still sleep well last night, even though I was feeling nervous.
“After exercising my right, I felt relieved,” he said, noting that he arrived at the polling centre with his parents.
Meanwhile, Seren Jane John, 18, also from Rh Sait, expressed joy about her initial voting experience.
She mentioned that her parents had already told her to vote early in the morning.
“Following my parents’ advice to vote early, I encouraged friends to join. After voting, we plan to share our experiences and hope for a dedicated representative for Jepak,” she shared.
Alexzius Juntan Kawi, 19, from Rh Danggang, Sungai Sembawang, found his first voting experience thrilling.
“Yes, it’s my first time. I am very excited because we have our responsibility to choose the person that we want to develop Jepak,” he said.
Meanwhile, Crishya David Bouy, 19, from Rh Belayong Buang, conveyed her satisfaction with her voting experience.
“I was excited and happy that I was able to be one of the voters that decides who our new representative will be,” she said.
Lucas Anjat Henry, 20, from Rh Sam Sumbang, Ulu Sungai Mas, also expressed his satisfaction with the polling process.
“I am excited to vote because I am fulfilling my civic duty in the Jepak state constituency,” he said.
