Fish fry released at school pond

MIRI: Transport Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin on Saturday released a good number of koi fish fry to a fish pond at SMK St Joseph Miri.

These are for the school’s rearing of koi fish project which will add vibrancy to the school’s environment.

Accompanying Lee was Assistant Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Sebastian Ting and the school principal Samuel Ng as well as members of the School’s Alumni Association plus members of the School Management Board.

At the event, Lee also congratulated the school’s practical education plan which allowed students to learn some basic living skills such as rearing fish, managing hydroponic vegetable farm and kelulut bee farm.

The members of Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), Alumni Association and School Board have helped the school in creating a mini agriculture lab where the students have the opportunity to learn modern agriculture method. Lee also suggested that the school to liaise with the Agriculture Department and work with the school board, alumni and PTA to initiate more projects such as hydroponic and fertigation to give more exposure to the students on modern agriculture.
