BINTULU: A fisherman is feared drowned after he failed to return from a fishing trip in Kuala Tatau yesterday (Dec 31).

Mohd Ainul Median, 23, was reported to have gone fishing yesterday at 10.30am with two of his friends in three separate boats.

While the victim’s friends returned to the jetty at 4.30pm yesterday, Mohd Ainul was nowhere in sight, prompting his family and villagers to mount a search for him.

The search party came across the victim’s boat stranded on shore. Mohd Ainul’s family immediately lodged a missing person report fearing he could have been fallen overboard after his boat was hit by strong waves.

This morning (Jan 1), Tatau police with the assistance of Tatau firemen and the Civil Defence Force (APM) launched a search and rescue (SAR) operation over a radius of five nautical miles from Kuala Tatau to Kuala Serupai.

As at press time victim has yet to be found.
