SIBU: A whopping RM50,000 is up for grabs for the champion angler at the forthcoming Shimano International Surfcasting Challenge Cup 2019.

The competition, to take place from 9am to 12.30pm on July 28 in Belawai, has so far attracted 600 people.

“Since entry was opened last month, we have received confirmation from 600 participants who are mainly from the state, Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Labuan,” Sibu Fishing Club (SFC) secretary Tang Tung Kuok told pressmen yesterday.

SFC is confident of getting 1,000 to sign up, he said.

“Yes we target 1,000 participants, so we have decided to extend the closing date from June 30 to July 15.”

On the prizes, he said the champion will walk away with prize money of RM50,000 while second prize winner will receive RM7,500, third RM3,000, fourth RM1,500 and fifth RM1,000.

The sixth to tenth positions winners will get RM500 each, 11th to 20th positions RM200 each and 21st to 100th position RM100 each.

The participation fee is RM150 each.
