PADAWAN: Police here arrested five locals for allegedly engaging in online gambling in separate locations on Monday.

The operation codenamed ‘Ops Dadu Khas’, was carried out by the district police task force and various police branches from 12.45pm to 5.15pm

Padawan police chief Supt Aidil Bolhassan, who confirmed the arrests, said the first two were made in two eateries at Emart Commercial Centre, Batu Kawa.

“Meanwhile in Jalan Belatok, the team arrested the third and fourth suspects in an eatery and in a house.

“On the other hand, the last suspect was detained in an eatery at Jalan Taman Sri Muhibbah,” he said.

The suspects — three men and two women — were later brought to the police station for further action.

Aidil noted that the police managed to confiscate five phones, cash amounting to RM1,024 and four pieces of paper written with numbers.

The case is being investigated under Section 4(1)(c) of the Common Gaming House Act 1953.
