
KUCHING: Five individuals were arrested by the police for operating an illegal online gambling call centre in a raid on Tuesday.
Padawan district police chief, Supt Aidil Bolhassan said the raid took place at a two-storey house at Jalan Penrissen around 11.10am.
A Padawan Crime Investigation Division (CID) police team arrested four local men aged 24 to 55 and an Indonesian woman who would be investigated under Section 4(1)(g) of the Common Gaming House Act 1953, Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 and Section 15(1)(c) of the same Act 1959/63.
“This syndicate is believed to have been operating the call centre for about a week at the location.
“It made about RM5,000 per day. The syndicate used the premises to hide from authorities, and the operator is supplied with a smartphone and a computer by the syndicate,” added Aidil.
During the raid, police seized three monitors, two central processing units (CPUs), keyboards, computer mice, two mobile phones, a laptop, modems, chairs and tables and also ten boxes of contraband cigarettes.
