KUCHING: The appointment of five ministers from Sarawak under the new Federal Cabinet is a good sign for the state government in terms of state-federal relations.

Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah who is also Asajaya assemblyman, applauded Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for appointing five ministers from Sarawak in the recently announced Federal Cabinet.

“Previously there were only four Sarawakians, and having five is something which is very good.

“History is made as well for having the first deputy Prime Minister from Sarawak, in Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof representing the Borneo bloc, who is also the new Minister of Plantations and Commodities,” he said.

He was speaking to the reporters after officiating the Sarawak Road Trip (Kuching to Gedong) launching ceremony at Square Tower, Kuching Waterfront earlier this morning (December 3).

Abdul Karim who is also Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts expressed his delight that a fellow Sarawakian, Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing is also Minister of Tourism under the new Federal Cabinet.

“We know that Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing has got quite a character and everyone in Sarawak would know of this because of his comments towards immigration, police and many more.

“You have to be defensive on a lot of those that come under your jurisdiction and I’m happy about this decision and we will work well with him,” he added.

He further added that having a Sarawakian looking after Malaysian tourism is indeed a bonus and this would be very convenient for him however, he would need to see how things settle in the near future.
