Five held for drugs in raids

BINTULU: Five locals were arrested for alleged involvement in substance abuse at separate locations in the district.

Bintulu district police chief Supt Batholomew Umpit via a statement said the first case happened on Aug 1 at Jalan Keppel Shahida.

A narcotic police team arrested a 47-year-old man for possession of 0.8g of drugs believed to be syabu.

He pointed out that the suspect will be investigated under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a fine up to RM100,000 and a jail term up to five years, if convicted.

In the second case, four men aged between 22 and 36 were nabbed on Aug 3 at Taman Sri Dagang and Jalan Tanjung Batu.

“Two of them will be investigated under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 after police seized 0.10g of drugs believed to be syabu from them,” he said.

All of four suspects will also be investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 after they were tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.
