Five new clusters announced

KUCHING: The state Health Department have declared emergence of five new Covid-19 clusters in Sarawak on Tuesday (Sept 7) — one each in Kuching, Sebauh, Tatau, Pakan and Subis.

According to the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), all five clusters are community clusters.

The committee, in its daily statement said the first cluster, dubbed the Pinang Jawa Cluster in Subis, is a community cluster involving residents of a village, Kampung Pinang Jawa at Jalan Matang, Kuching.

“The cluster saw 91 out of 92 individuals screened tested positive for Covid-19 including the index case, one still awaiting lab result and one new case reported today,” it said.

Sungai Setulai Cluster involved residents of a longhouse under the enhancement movement control order (EMCO) at Sungai Setulai, Bakun.

Out of 52 individuals screened, 12 including the index case tested positive while 40 are still awaiting lab results. Eleven new cases were reported today (Sept 7).

The third community cluster, Bukit Barun Cluster in Tatau also involved residents of a longhouse under the EMCO.

Ninety individuals were screened and 52 including the index case tested positive, while 38 are still waiting for the lab results. Fifty-one new cases were reported today.

The Beruru Cluster involved residents of a longhouse near Beruru, Nanga Kara in Pakan.

Forty-four out of 54 individuals screened tested positive including the index case, 10 were negative and 43 are waiting for their lab results.

Meanwhile, the Sungai Tangap Cluster in Sungai Tangap, Subis involved residents of two longhouses under the enhancement movement control order.

Out of 103 individuals screened, 42 including the index case were tested positive, 59 individuals negative, while two are waiting for lab results. Another 10 new cases were reported yesterday.

“All Covid-19 positive cases were admitted to nearby hospitals and low-risk treatment centres (PKRC) in their respective districts for isolation and further treatment,” it added.

According to SDMC, 33 of the state’s 144 active clusters registered a total of 404 new cases. At the same time, no clusters were declared to have ended.
