Five pedestrians injured in accident

SARIKEI: Five pedestrians were hit by a compact multipurpose vehicle (MPV) on Thursday night (Aug 18) at Taman Susur Jambu here.

Sarikei district police chief Supt Awang Arfian Awang Bujang confirmed that the police had received a report concerning the accident.

He added that the accident involved five pedestrians who were hit by a vehicle at 9.45pm.

“The compact MPV driver came from the junction of Taman Susur Jambu, coming out of a house in Taman Susur Jambu.

“When the vehicle reached the junction, the five pedestrians were hit from behind while accompanying one of the pedestrians going home,” said Awang Arfian when contacted.

In addition, one of the pedestrians sustained serious injuries due to being hit and went under the MPV. The rest only sustained light injuries.

“All of the victims received treatment at Sarikei Hospital. The driver did not sustain any injuries,” he said.

The accident is being investigated under Section 43 of the Road Transport Act 1987.
