KUCHING: Five food stalls at a commercial centre along Jalan Tun Jugah were destroyed in a fire here early yesterday.

All five stalls were 80 per cent destroyed.

According to State Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), eight personnel, led by Senior Fire Officer II Chaplin, from Tabuan Jaya fire station rushed to the scene in a fire engine after receiving a distress call at 4.25am.

Twenty personnel in two fire engines, two EMRS vehicle and three rapid intervention motorcycles (RIMs) from Kuching and Batu Lintang fire stations were also deployed to the scene to provide assistance.

The department said the firefighters from Kuching fire station were the first to arrive at the scene followed by firefighters from Batu Lintang and Tabuan Jaya fire stations.

The fire was brought under control within minutes and quick action by the firefighters also prevented the fire from spreading to other nearby stalls.

The operations commander reported that no injuries and human casualties were involved in the incident and the operation ended at 5.09am.
