Water levels rose up to 2.5 feet yesterday at Sekolah Iban Union.

SIBU: Heavy rain caused flash flood that briefly worried longhouse folk in Selangau yesterday.

State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) secretariat chief Major Ismail Mahedin said the flood built up fast but receded as quickly.

At its peaked it threatened to flood Sekolah Iban Union and Rumah Jampi, rising up to 1.5 feet around the longhouse and 2.5 feet in the school’s football field.

The school, however, was still empty because the school year has yet to start.

SDMC personnel on duty spent 30 minutes to monitor the flood and left when they were satisfied the water level was going down.
