MARUDI: Seven villagers from a longhouse in Stapang here were evacuated after flash flood hit the area early yesterday morning.

According to Miri Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) chief Supt Law Poh Kiong, the overflowing water, following heavy downpour on Thursday night, led villagers to immediately evacuate to a nearby longhouse.

“Seven firemen from Marudi fire station were rushed to the scene after responding to an alert on the incident,” said Supt Law.

The longhouse was flooded with water level reaching approximately one foot.

Six other longhouses in the area, including one e-Kasih recipient’s house, were also flooded.
