MIRI: The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) approved the request from Royal Brunei Airlines Sdn Bhd to operate two charter flights from Miri, Sarawak to Brunei Darussalam today.

The two charter flights were meant to carry 133 workers from Sarawak working with Brunei LNG Sdn Bhd, disclosed Transport Minister, Datuk Lee Kim Shin in a statement today.

The SDMC approval was granted with conditions that the Royal Brunei Airlines Sdn Bhd must strictly comply with the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) issued by the Malaysian National Security Council, Ministry of Health, Malaysia and the State Disaster Management Committee Entry Guidelines to Sarawak for Commercial Flight Crew.

For example, the flight crew must not leave the aircraft and must maintain good personal hygiene such as wearing face masks, using hand sanitisers, practising physical distancing with no interaction allowed between the flight crew and ground handling personnel.

The SDMC approval was conveyed by the Transport Ministry to Royal Brunei Airlines Sdn Bhd on February 22, 2021.
