LAWAS: The Lawas Asian Floating Market 2023 is indeed a platform that generates income and develops the socioeconomics of the community.
 
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said, despite generating income, the event is also becoming another package to attract tourists to Lawas.
 
“We have a long history, rich in resources and cultural customs, which will generate our economic development.
 
“This is an effort that we should promote. All these are tourist attractions. We must change how we want to develop our traditional efforts, and then we must adapt to the changes,” he said.
 
He said this during the launch of the Lawas Asian Floating Market Festival 2023 here recently.
 
Elaborating, Awang Tengah said that the world is now experiencing economic change.
 
“Therefore, we also need to change. We increase our creativity and innovation, and it will be a unique attraction.
 
“We should work on local themes to improve the economy of our society. This is not new, even though it is the first time we have held it.
 
“We can lift the tradition in a new way, and it will be a unique effort. This is the purpose of holding this festival, so that we can contribute to developing the tourism sector,” he added.
 
In the meantime, Awang Tengah, who is also the Natural Resources and Urban Development Second Minister, called for more branding and participation for the next organisation of the festival.
 
The festival, which was held from August 11 to 13 along the Lawas Waterfront, has attracted thousands of visitors with a variety of programmes such as decorated boats, singing competitions, and others.
