LIMBANG: Four schools in the district were closed yesterday due to rising water levels after continuous rainfall since Monday night.

The schools affected were Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Ulu Lubai, SK RC Kubong, SK Kuala Awang and SK Kubong.

Meanwhile, SK Nanga Merit and SK Merambut were also flooded but still operating normally.

The continuous rainfall since Monday evening caused the areas at Kubong, Nanga Medamit, Ensurai and Ulu Lubai Limbang to be flooded.

According to Limbang Fire and Rescue Department head, Tawang Lingem, his department is on standby mode. Three teams with equipment have been directed to monitor the area.

Meanwhile, some roads in Kubong, Bukit Batu and Ensurai were 1.5m deep in water and had become impassable to vehicles.

So far, he said, there had been no evacuation order as the flood situation was still under control.

Meanwhile, in Lawas District, a family of five residents was evacuated to a safer area after their house in Kampung Gelapas Trusan was flooded.

Lawas Fire and Rescue Services Department head, Zaki Husin said all the victims were evacuated as the water level had reached waist deep with strong water current.

In addition, monitoring was conducted in several locations proned to flood.

Among the affected areas, SK Ulu Merapok was flooded but the water level was receding.

“Some locations like Kpg Siang-Siang, Kpg Pengalih, Kpg Long Tukon, Kpg Gelapas Trusan and Kpg Seberang Kedai Trusan are being monitored,” he said when contacted yesterday.

In the Sundar area, no flood victims were evacuated as water level was not serious.

According to Sundar Sub-district Administrative Officer, Ladin Atok, continuous monitoring is being conducted by personnel and rescue teams from the Bomba Station.

Meanwhile, air service from Limbang to Miri was suspended yesterday morning. It was restored only by 2pm.

Several roads between Limbang and Lawas were also affected by the flood. Only heavy vehicles could pass through some of them.

There were also flash floods in Temburong town, Brunei.

The Limbang route to Miri in Batu Danau was also affected and only heavy vehicles could manoveur through the water.
